Some have had professional photos done some haven't and while all photographers have different styles there are certain things that tend to be very similar for all photography sessions.
WELL RESTED
While post processing, make up and all those sorts of things can go a long way to making us all look better, there's no replacement for a couple of good nights sleep going into your photography session. In the world we live in today, everything is super fast paced but a photograph is a captured moment in time that may be looked back on for generations to come and you'll want to look your best.
HYDRATION
Hey we all do it, sodas and teas and coffee and the like but what's really important for your best skin to show through is good hydration. Especially for a couple days leading up to your session.
WARDROBE
If your session is for your bridal gown wardrobe isn't really a closet of choices it's really about you, your dress and your details and bridal sessions warrant it's very own blog post that we'll cover in the near future.
If your session is for your family, choose your outfits accordingly for the season. The environment in your photographs will most likely give a good clue as to what the season was when they were taken but sealing in that "feeling" is done with your wardrobe choice. Maybe you want to choose coordinating outfits for the whole family, it's a great way to bring an extra little something to your finished photographs. What we wouldn't recommend is contrasting too much between each other. For example, everyone in the family is dressed casually maybe nice jeans and flannel tops but one person isn't wearing a flannel top their wearing a Greatful Dead t-shirt. Just a thought.
"PROPS"
So let's say your session is a senior session and one of your big passions is hunting, if you're going to bring your bow, make sure you have everything that you would bring with your bow on a hunt to the session. Maybe your passion is cheerleading, bring everything that you would bring to a game to your session. We've even had families that wanted to have a fun image and brought different things that emphasized each person.
Thinking ahead and making sure you have all the little detail items you might want for a session can be the difference between happy image and disappointed image.
BE ON TIME
William Shakespear - "Better three hours too soon than a minute too late." Now 3 hours might be a little overkill but never underestimate the value of being just 10 or 15 minutes early. Hey, it happens to everyone, something unexplained or traffic and it throws our timing off. COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE! If that doesn't happen though, it's really amazing how much smoother and more enjoyable a session goes when everyone is a few minutes early and ready to go when the session is supposed to start.
